Now, It's On!

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly mommy babble and handmade goings on...

NOW, It's on... Oh crikey, the panic we were in on Friday. For half a day we were convinced our purchased house completion had fallen through because after a positive and hopeful morning, we had a phone call that changed everything and left us pretty much unable to do anything but chew our hands and wait patiently for a resolution for the entire day.

It was the first time in all the trouble we've had buying this house that it seemed like we were set to lose it and all invested into it too, since all the trouble began before Christmas with the vendors of the property. We were supposed to have moved before Christmas! So it really has been an ordeal, and totally down to their own disorganised nature and personal issues between themselves as a couple. We just got dragged along for the ride!

Luckily though, in the last 15 minutes of the working day, our Solicitors gave us a phone call to celebrate and we are now able to get a move on!

So for a few days I'll only really be able to mobile blog, but I'm looking forward to doing that, it's a chance to make myself familiar with blogging on the move! LOL! Don't know how it'll work but we'll see! So I can confirm at least that my features this week will most definitely be postponed until the weekend, but I will be around if I am able to update on progress :) In all this I am still working too so it's going to be a busy one that's for sure!

Oh, I thought I would post a picture of a new rainbow bunny pic for the rainbow hat in my shop. I had word from a buyer about an order which got me thinking about the images I use for that particular color, as the rainbow yarn can vary in intensity with each dye lot I thought it'd be an idea to have a few images that show the different intensities I had encountered in the past. So here is one of them! I hope to get better images sometime as I'm not that happy with the one's I have in this color. We'll see how it goes! Ok I'm off to follow blogs whilst I have my coffee and then get going! Speak soon!

An Early Coffee and Cake...

It's Friday...

It is on!... Our house move is underway so of course I've had to have lots of limitations this week with certain features, and this of course is one that I've had to postpone until next week too. There are some issues going on which I cannot believe are happening regarding the fact that we hoped to be moving this weekend, which is down to the sellers of the property we are buying. It's come today at the last minute so we're chewing our hands off waiting news on what's going on. the situation with the blog may remain the same as we still need to sort out loads whether we move when we'd hoped or not. I'll still be working over the days on my orders but I doubt my time can be stretched further than that really. I have had the chance to ready a few of the more recent things I've made and haven't shared on my blog so I thought I'd paste those into this quick post today, but I need to scramble really being as we have a tonne to do for this weekend! There's a possibility of course that posts for early next week will be postponed, but we'll see how things go with that! I'll be in touch soon everyone :)

Efratdeutsch Jewelry

Tuesday - BESTeam Mosaic
weekly shoutout to the dedicated workers that like to help other handmade artists...

Quick apology for not posting Monday Magic yesterday. the days events made it an impossible task so I'll be moving the theme to the next Monday.

Efratdeutsch on Etsy... is an amazing modern jewelry crafter, and I'd say an artist at that as her work has such a fine and unique elegance to it that makes it stand out proud from conventional jewelry. Her work has this consistent signature style throughout the store so this is a place where you can be sure of finding perfection be it one of her precise and symmetrical pieces, or a more unusually abstract piece. Efrat herself has a BFA degree in jewelry design from Bezalel academy of art and design behind her and basis her designs on both nature and urban life. I'd say her jewelry would make perfect gifts this coming Valentines day!

Check out her blog here to see some of her personal posts and features of other artsits!

For those of you with a passion for handmade, and you have a blog that is in need of a consistant weekly post to drive your traffic and help fellow artisans by doing the same. Come and join the BESTeam!

Musing

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly mommy babble and handmade goings on...

Musing... I seem to have hat ideas coming from all angles currently. It's very exciting and motivating to always be thinking about creating things, and even better when I get a moment to execute the new ideas and expand on others! My inspiration this week has mostly been for Babamoon, and so far I have had three new hats come out of it. One I am still picking and choosing images for so I'll probably launch that one next week, but I have the other two here to show today :) One is the familiar Flopsy Bunny Hat in Pink! Nothing spectacularly new, but I don't have any images of my other colors for the single colored hat, other than the Rainbow spray color available in my shop. I thought it'd be nice to have something in there for Valentines Day so baby pink was the choice :)

My other new hat as you can guess is a little smart number for boys! My newest newsboy cap! I've been meaning to do more boys hats and newsboy caps so I figured that I'd better get on with it. Ages ago I went a bit mad at my local yarn store buying loads of sale yarns and chose the one picured above out of my stash to make this one with. The only problem is the yarn is a discontinued line so even though I am able to obtain the yarn for the hat still, some time soon I won't be able to so it has become my first limted edition hat! Very excited about it. It's brought a whole new dynamic to my yarn hunting lol! So far it looks like I can make a fair few of them, but due to the limitations I am only making sizes up to 2T as i think with the yarn now being so rare it's best this way. Best grab one whilst I have the yarn!

Wedding Bags by BelleJouJou

Friday Finds... BelleJouJou

Wow it's been a while but Friday Finds is BACK after a holiday of it's own, and to kick off 2011 I have a beautiful store and brilliant crafter behind the work to share with you! BelleJouJou specializes in custom wedding and special event bags, and they are just absolutely stunning! If you are planning something special, especially those ladies looking to accessorize for their big day or for unique gifts then you'll find BelleJouJou is full of luxurious elegant treats to feast your eyes upon. I contacted Cynthia, the lady behind the work to find out more about what she does! I hope you enjoy her interview!

Interview # 55

(Just click the images to go direct to the listings)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) I’m Cynthia Duke-Birowski, age 57. I live in Dallas, Texas and have for 36 years, except for the 5 years I escaped to California. I call myself an ADD artist. I can’t do just one thing!

-- What is your business about then? My business is about making beautiful clutches and purses for the discriminating woman to match her wardrobe and her style.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? I’m in an artist ring with a group of wonderful women who support each other in art, life and mentor each other. My associates kept telling me to check out etsy and I finally did!

-- Are you working a day job too? No, I’m not working a day job. I call myself semi-retired, since I will never ever stop doing and creating SOMEthing.

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? I’ve been an artist since I could hold a crayon. I used to design new clothes on my paper dolls at 5 and 6 years of age.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? I was a fashion designer for 15 years in the Dallas area, and retired from that very stressful arena. But, I had bought about 10 yards of a faux leopard print fabric a few years ago (for drapes that I never made) and decided to do something with it. The bags seemed the best thing to make with it. It kind of exploded from that into doing silk bags for brides and bridesmaids.

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Beautiful, luxurious, elegant

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? I get up around 8, then get a cup of Good Earth tea, get on the computer for about 1 ½ hours, doing research, answering emails. Then I cut out some bags or do a planning session for the flowers and embellishments. If I have a custom order, I may have to go shop for fabric in that color if I don’t have enough. I come back home around 3-4 and sew or cut more bags, then go to the gym around 5:30 and have dinner later. If I have a pressing order, I may continue working until around 10:30 at night to complete the order.

-- What's your favourite material and techniques to work with? I love working with silks and brocades. I also love planning the flowers which I make myself out of satins, organzas and chiffons and find just the perfect rhinestone button or color of feathers for embellishments.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? I would love to work with more brides who come to me for their very special bag that would be a family heirloom or paint someones dream bag for their special event.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? I love to read at night to put me to sleep. Usually a fantasy book. I also love just getting together with friends in my women’s group. On the weekends, I relax at the lake with my husband on our boat if there’s not an art show going on somewhere, that is!

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? I usually search for rhinestone buttons, feathers, flowers and other clutch accessories, and check out my competition to see what the latest trends are.

-- Any last words? Yes, I love this quote from Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." –

I’ve decided that this is my motto – and to be true to yourself at all times!

Photography by Danizabeth

Tuesday - BESTeam Mosaic
weekly shoutout to the dedicated workers that like to help other handmade artists...

Danizabeth on Etsy... I have actually featured Danzibeth in one of my past Wednesday Gratitude posts, and was extrememly impressed by the photography when initially visiting. She had featured me in one of her own BESTeam Feature posts, and I am so chuffed that I finally get the chance to do the same :) I LOVE her style of photography. Full on saturated color, and retro perspectives make her store a wonderful vibrant feast for the eyes! as a youth she loved to go to salvage yards with her father and her images all relate to an arranged a trip with him in more recent days. Her shop is full of amazing photographs the could appeal to a wide range of enthusiasts from the vehicle enthusiasts to those with a passion for the old and disused! For me I just love the attention to detail which is enhanced by the use of high contrast and the variety in angles of perspective which appeal to both my abstract and conventional tastes. It makes the collection unique and shows of her signature style. This is a photographer worth checking out so visit her shop when you have a moment!

Besides her work, her blog details just a bit more about her and what she gets up to, including some great features of other artisans, some great tips and advice for your handmade business ventures.

For those of you with a passion for handmade, and you have a blog that is in need of a consistant weekly post to drive your traffic and help fellow artisans by doing the same. Come and join the BESTeam!
