Orlypittel Handmade Jewelry and Accessories

Friday Finds... orlypittel

Interview # 45
One of my most recent crafty vices are buttons. I have scoured all over locally to find just the right ones to go with some of my baby knits and about a month or two back I found the most gorgeous ceramic buttons that are now fashioned into one of my headband designs. I have since bought some other shapes (little dinosaurs... yey!) for the ongoing idea factory that is my head, and really grown to appreciate what goes into the smaller ceramic creations that a lot of crafters make. I came across a wonderful seller known as Orly who makes STUNNING jewelry with ceramics and just to emphasise my new found love for it I think I spent about half an hour just staring at all the various items in her store! I hearted a particular favourite but wow there are a lot of beauties in there! Her style suits the material totally, and the designs feel grounded. I am so pleased she has been able to take part in this weeks interview so I will let you learn a bit more about her and her craft :)

(Just click the images to go direct to the listings)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) My name is Orly Pittel, I’m 44 years old, married and a mother of 3 beautiful children. I'm from Israel, In the past 8 years we live in a moshav (village) and I just love it.
Since I remember myself, even as a child in my parent’s house, creation was always there. My parents had a factory for knitwear, which sold all over Israel. I understand today that my attraction to the handmade creation field started back then.
Over the years I have tried working with different materials and techniques, but once I tried ceramic – I fell in love!

-- What is your business about then? Creating ceramic art ware became one of my passions.
It’s a wonderful feeling to take a lump of clay with no shape or color and turn it into a personal, lively and unique creation.
This kind of creation offers me endless possibilities. I enjoy creating sculptures, jewelry, functional and decorative items. I like to combine in my ceramic work other materials from the nature, such as rocks, wood, glass and more.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? In the past I sold my work to friends, but due to increasing demand and friends recommendations I decided to open my Etsy shop, and I got hooked!
I love the exposure, support and the wonderful atmosphere in this new world.
I opened my first shop www.orlydesign.etsy.com exactly one year ago; almost all items in this shop are for weddings, I’m so excited when someone chooses one of my creations for their big day!
Lately, I decided to separate my ceramic jewelry and to dedicate for it a new shop.
I found out that creating ceramic jewelry is so fun, but wearing these colorful earrings, necklaces or any other jewelry is much more fun. My ceramic jewelry can be worn when you want something elegant or something for everyday use !!
Recently I started to make personalized items, each item gets personal attention for a special person who has chosen letters, symbols, words and colors as preferred.
I really enjoy making someone feel special with a little unique personal piece.
I think all my friends already have personal pendants…
My jewelry shop is NEW, there is much more to come- every day I add new items to my shop. Make sure to visit often to see the new designs.

-- Are you working a day job too? For the last 10 years until 11 months ago I taught computer networks in a college.
At the same time I also created and taught art.
I’ve decided to quite my day job, and choose to create full time.

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? During the day I spend most of my time in my home studio, where I create and teach art and ceramics for kids and adults.
At the late evening, after few hours of being a wife and a mom I dedicate my time for promoting my shops, adding new items which I pictured during the day, making treasuries and browsing Etsy's world…

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? My work is often inspired by themes from the nature and I enjoy incorporating other materials, particularly those found in nature, in my pieces. You can find me collecting pieces from the nature like beach stones, sea shore rock, sea glass, braches and whatever who makes my imagination to see how a little stone can become an art piece….

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? LOVE, COLORFUL, FUN
To make other people happy with little simple things from daily life makes me so happy….

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? During the day I spend most of my time in my home studio, where I create and teach art and ceramics for kids and adults.
At the late evening, after few hours of being a wife and a mom I dedicate my time for promoting my shops, adding new items which I pictured during the day, making treasuries and browsing Etsy's world…

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? I want to believe (and hope) that in the future my shops will be known in the jewelry, weddings and ceramics fields, I'm working now on a new web site, which I attend to launch and present my creation.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? Spending time with my family and friends, cooking and baking and just relaxing with a good book.

-- Any last words? In my nature I’m a kind of person who wants to see immediate results, so waiting is the hardest part of my creation process.
Every time I turn on the kiln I literally count the hours, minutes and seconds till I can open it, and this kind of kiln when working with ceramics, there are a LOT of minutes to count.
For me, to open the kiln in the end of the process – it's like to open a treasury box with many colorful unique surprises …
Check out my shops and you tell me, Do you like these little surprises?

Introducing my 50th installment of my weekly feature Monday Magic!!! Wow that is 50 weeks, 12 new Etsy sellers at a time and 600 in total! I am truely amazed that I have featured that many artists in just my Monday feature alone, so to celebrate I have a new look for the feature (as well as a new look blog) annnnnnnnnnd I want to set up my blogs FIRST GIVEAWAY this week which I'm hoping will be first of many :) Stay posted for it!

These Etsy.com sellers all share something special... Fabulous work! Yet, somehow like many sellers on Etsy are wondering where all their admirers are! So this is where I feel it's time to showcase the undiscovered talent of Etsy, on Monday each week so they have a chance to shine like the best of Etsy do :)

All of the sellers names can be typed into the navigation bar on your browser followed with ".etsy.com" (dot etsy dot com) to take you to their stores. Otherwise click on an image to go directly to their listing!

I am now taking requests for next weeks Monday Magic Expo. If you would like to be a part of it, you are required to have 0-19 sales in your Etsy store, and the theme is 'Frost' Contact me via convo @ http://moonangelnay.etsy.com to send in your requests, plus a link to your suitable item :)

BESTeam! We Need YOU!

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly musings, articles and mostly babble...

We Need YOU! The great thing about the handmade community is the way everyone helps eachother out in some shape or form. Be it a feature, a tweet, a hosted giveaway, or even some advice, we all come together as one big crafting family to pay it forward for eachother and for other causes. I LOVE being a part of this which is why I wanted to dedicate todays post to a team I am part of and most active in. That is the BESTeam on Etsy. BESTeam as you can see from the image (if you have images enabled!) stands for Boosting Etsy Shops Team, and so far we have literally being boosting eachothers web presence and shop/blog traffic on a weekly basis by writing up features of each members work. I myself as a lot of you know had dedicated an entire day each week to do this for my team which is on Tuesdays. I feature a LOT of people on my blog weekly so it has been nice to have a day especially for one of the teams I'm part of.
I do enjoy being a part of this team so today I wanted to put out a call for any Etsy sellers with blogs that may wish to be a part of the team. The criteria really is only the passion and drive to help and and feature other handmade artists (as they will for you too), and the way we rotate means that everyone get's to feature someone different and someone ALWAYS 99% of the time should feature you regularly! I can't think of a better way to build up your backlinks and gain more web presence. I think the team is transitioning into a new development which will allow members to post monthly instead of weekly, which is perfect for those that are a little time strapped. But it's something that I am only just aware of so we'll have to see how it pans out!

If you are interested in joining please stop by our Yahoo Group or send a convo for more info and I'll be happy to help out!

Maulani Felted Jewelry

Friday Finds... Maulani

Interview # 44
As a yarn lover I am always intrigued and inspired by all the creative things crafters can do with this medium. Knit, crocheted and felted goods are far and widely commonplace and darned cool nowadays which goes beyond the stereotype of the little old lady huddled knitting in the corner, that was always placed on yarn crafts. Now it's something that we can all aspire to do as a fun and relaxing hobby, can teach our kids without them eyeing us up as the definition of uncool, and for some it has become an artform outside of wearable garments, and even as jewelry! Dita Maulani is just one of those yarn crafters that likes to turn fibers into jewelry and makes some really great eye catching pieces that are trendy, bright and one of a kind. Not only that, but she also makes fabric jewelry and uses some great little findings for her metal pieces. Check out Dita's interview to find out more about her work and you can visit her store by clicking on any of the images or links in this post :)

(Just click the images to go direct to the listings)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) Hello, I'm Dita Maulani from Bogor, a small city in West Java, Indonesia. I will celebrate my 23rd birthday this upcoming November 2nd and I love to sing.

-- What is your business about then? I love to craft, and I always think it's gonna be lovely to sell some of my handmade creations. Since I want to have one specialization on my Etsy shop, I chose needle felted necklace. I fall in love with needle felted instantly but still lack of technique so I decided to make necklace from felted balls.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? Found it via google and suddenly I got crush on listings on the front page then decided to make account on November 2009. But at the time I haven't done anything yet about my shop, I just made treasury and heart listings I love. I never feel enough of giving someone's shop or listing a heart. "I want to be hearted too!" my heart said. That was on August 2010. I finally opened my shop on August 5th.

-- Are you working a day job too? I'm a college graduate, will be on training for English teacher in one of English course in my city this September 20th. I'm working hard to get it as my day job (although I love crafting more than teaching English). Just wish me luck!

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? I don't know! Never thought I am an artist though but this past two years I never pass a day without crafting.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? Anything beautiful, especially needle felted creation or anything that is felted, inspires me! Seeing stunning photo of well-crafted handmade stuffs on Etsy can turn on my creative button!

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Fun, bouncy, one-and-only

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? 10 a.m until 4 p.m

-- What's your favourite material and techniques to work with? I love roving wool and I love needle felting technique! Still learn and way too far from perfect but I love to learn more technique.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? I want to stay in another country (if it's possible) to turn my craft hobby in real business. I would love to teach English in concentration camp too, or in an area where so many uneducated people live.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? Hanging out with my boyfriend and friends is fun! Kicking back and relax at home with latte is fun too :)

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? Felt creation! Anything. I really love that material so anything that's made of felt, I must love it!

-- Any last words? I would love to hear from you! My Etsy shop is on sale, so make a visit if you have extra time ;)
