SUNDAY... Coffee and Cake

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly musings, articles and mostly babble...

MY TREASURY You saw it here! Not first... but it's here :) Those who have seen the most recent Monday Magic 12 will recognise the return of these faces, for this weeks official Etsy treasury! Go on and give them some love if you havent already! Your 12 clicks and comments will help HUGELY with their exposure as you know, and I know they will appreciate the support for their start on Etsy! So please visit N e w b i e . M a g i c . 6

cr8tivity Came across a new site today, similar to the "heartomatic" and "craftopolis" in that it is a fab source of handy tools for Etsy users. I recommend giving it a visit because there are some usueful things like charts that separate your traffic by shop catagory which is AMAZINGLY useful if you want to know where your customers prefer to visit in your shop. It has an Etsy Mini type widget for your blogs/sites which I decided today I actually prefer because at it's smallest you can still got through the entire inventory of your store because it SCROLLS! Also giving a snippet of info about each item, plus the price! AND a buy now button! All in the same widget :D frikkin awesome or what??? So I'm sorry Etsy but I replaced your Mini with a cr8tivity widget today :) Did I mention it has tools for product fliers??? Ohh you're best checking it out yourselves because there are some fab things on there, and they are better being seen and not rambled about by me :) http://cr8tivity.com/

Prodding and Probing Yup... literally spent 2 Wednesdays in a row now at the hospital having what i wish were the last of my baby related appointments! Infact, last week would have been my last, but the doctors insist that because my son was born small (just under 7lbs??? only just...) that I am "high risk" and need to be monitored to make sure our little girl is growing at a consistent rate and the right size to fit in with the charts. It'd amuse me more if it were bloomin music related, that's for certain! But OH MY GOSH I have had it with HOURS of my days being robbed by people who fail to see that I'm not the tallest of ladies in the world, neither is my other half, and that maybe they're being a bit reactionary? Unfortunately the NHS in the UK likes to cause unnecessary stress for people, either by running you around in circles worrying you or by keeping you in their quarters for entire days for appointments that normally take 10-30 mins. I think they just like to make people twiddle their thumbs and shout at them. I feel sorry for the workers as they follow a shite system, implemented by our shite powers that be and get all the stick for it. *Sigh* But it wasn't all a loss as I brought my knitting and thoroughly enjoyed all the weird looks I got LOL!
This isn't the first time the NHS have really annoyed me, let me down or both. My midwife tells me that I need to question what they're doing because she thinks it's pointless as I'm a dot (cute way of saying im a shrimp lol!) and that they need to be certain that they take my other half into account as she thinks it's all a waste of time based on her own experience with small mothers. THEY tell me however that my chart is based on my ethnic origin, height, and my weight. Doesn't involve the other half at all but hey it's more accurate than standard because it's "personal" they say. Forgetting that my ethnic origin doesn't really have much to do with my height at all, my height is my height, and my weight??? I think it's a bit silly that they don't ask about your partners details, because it's almost like they're assuming I've immaculately conceived or something. Anyway! One more trip to go in a coupla months. Then I can worry about labor in the normal worryingsome, teeth grindingly painful way when it's happening :D

Lol! Weird mix today!

Happy Sunday!

Friday Finds... PetiteCreation

Friday Finds... PetiteCreation

This is my 17th interview of the amazing not-so-well-known artists of Etsy!

Happy Friday! Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend! For me it's like no other day really, as my days seem to just melt into eachother. I can't blame it on being a mum, and i doubt i can blame my partners shifts... I think I'm just going mad personally LOL! I never know what day it is, so my weekends are just as confusing as any old day... ah well!
Onward anyway! For you all today I would like to bring you into the teeny tiny world of PetiteCreation on Etsy, whose craft focuses on making some of the most impressive miniture food stuffs out of polymer clay. I wonder how these things are done, as I use polymer clay myself in my photablet pendants, but the way this artist works her clay is so precise and detailed. I admire her skills! Please do visit PetiteCreation's store to check out her lovely work, and help support the New Artists on Etsy by doing so!

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) My name is Jennifer and I’m 19 years old. I live in Toronto, Ontario and I’m currently studying right now. I’m studying Graphic Design in Ontario College of Art and Design. I love art and craft a lot. I like working with my hands like drawing and making crafts, and using the computer to make wonderful designs.

-- What is your business about then? My business is about turning realistic things in life into small miniatures. Also, making them for people to use in different ways like jewelries, displays for home, dollhouses, keychain and phone decorations. I hope this business can make people happy by letting them bring their favourite food in miniature size everywhere they go or put at home to look at.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? I had always wanted to sell my products so I started off selling in a small store first. Then one time, I came across with a business card with Etsy site on it. I searched it up and found that Etsy is the place I’m looking for and started selling on Etsy.

-- Are you working a day job too? I’m currently a student right now. My hands are full with homework, projects, exams and crafts, so no time for a day job. Although I hope making miniatures and selling on Etsy can be my full time job if I don’t need to study.

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? The artist in me had been unleashed for a long time already. I love working on art and craft at young age and when I grew up, I love graphic design so I studied in art school. It was only last year that I start to making clay miniatures.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? My inspiration comes from eating and my friends and family. Inspiration coming from eating might sound funny, but it is true because I love to eat. I like trying different kinds of food and I love it when I’m able to make my favourite food into tiny miniatures. My other inspiration comes from my friends and family because they give me ideas on different foods that I haven’t tried before.

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Three words to describe my products would be cute, colourful, and unique. =)

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? My average day would be starting off with getting up early in the morning to go to school. Usually I would get home in the afternoon. Then I would start being on my computer to check emails, do some blogging and surfing around Etsy. Afterward, I would start doing some promotions around Etsy by hanging around in chat room and forums. Then I would have dinner with family. After cleaning up the house and dishes, I would start making miniatures til late evening.

-- What's your favorite material and techniques to work with? My favourite material to work is clay and paints. I love using clay to form the shape and texture of the food and painting it to make it more realistic. Right now, I’m still learning more techniques on how to make food miniatures more realistic especially fruits.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? My ideal vision for the future right now is to improve my skills and techniques and gain more sales on Etsy. Also, hoping to make more kinds of food miniatures, and continue to sell on Etsy and in store as well.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? When I’m not working on miniatures or going to school, I love going out to hang out and chat with friends. Also, I usually go shopping, eating and when it is good weather, I would take a walk to the park.

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? I usually search for supplies on Etsy like findings for earrings, necklace, and bracelet. Also, I like meeting different artists who are doing food miniatures as well.

-- Any last words?

Thank you all for taking the time to read my interview! I will continue to make more miniatures to share with you all! My blog is http://petitecreation.blogspot.com/ , it has my updated news and creations! =)

Wednesday - Gratitude

Wednesday...Gratitude!

No.4!!!
I focus primarily twice a week on the NEW people to Etsy, when it comes to getting word out about emerging talents and businesses in the handmade community. Lately however I have begun to receive hoards of friendly gestures coming not just from the new sellers on Etsy but also the established ones too. I love giving the new sellers opportunities to find a place to get their name out there as in the ever growing Etsy world we all know that's getting harder, but people who have been around for a long time are picking up my work and doing really nice things to give me a shout out too. So for them (newbies too) Wednesdays are days where I want to share my gratitude and to also give them a shout out too, so their kind gestures are returned in the same way :)

TREASURIES Ok... Given up on trying to capture the treasury page image! I figured it would be more credible to the seller that creates these treasuries to have a link to an item in their store, like I did last week as in the long run I reckon a backlink to their shops would be more beneficial to their web ratings than a backlink to their treasury which disappears after only a few days! So today for treasuries that I have spotted or been told about over the past week, I would like to thank Etsy sellers IrinaPhotography and TrudieDavies for featuring me as a main in two lovely and colourful treasuries with 11 other fab sellers. No pictures I'm afraid of the treasuries themselves like I've mentioned but I want to encourage anyone reading to please visit the stores of these sellers either by clicking on their shop names mentioned already, or checking out my 2 favourite items out of each store! The top picture is a beautiful photograph depicting a natural rainbow bridge! I love it! Stunning, so you can check out the print itself by clicking the picture. And for TrudieDavies' lil Birdy studs. How cute are these??? There is a tonne of gorgeous silver jewelry, individually designed and made from recycled silver in her store. Definitely worth visiting as personally I am in awe each time I take a peek! Thanks again guys for featuring my work.

BLOG FEATURE I have a few of these to mention today actually. PipeandPepperPrints I think was the first to mention my shop in their blog after I included them in both Monday Magic and the corresponding treasury I now create weekly for the Monday posse. I thought I'd be nice to mention them again in thanks as I am grateful they even considered me for their blog regardless of featuring them beforehand, and I do LOVE their photography :) On the left I have included a linked picture to their print known as 010. It's beautiful and spring fresh! and also please visit PipeandPepperPrints' Blog, and show them some love :) Similarly seller BlondesBackyard also featured me in their blog in the same way which I am very greatful for. The blue mushroom buttons won my heart for Monday Magic but today I want to show off their cute little reversable pincushions on the left which are just one of many sweet and bright crafty project things in their store. You can visit their blog here. Lastly I wanted to offer thanks to PaintSlinging for popping me into their blog as a Guest Artist which was the first time I think that terminology has been used for me on any feature I've been in before so I was pretty chuffed about that one :) They regularly post guest artist features for painters, photographers and illustrators so check out PaintSlinging's blog to find out more and request to be a part of it! I have included an original and amazing painting of a fish from their store which you can click and visit. ORIGINAL! Can't get better than that :) Check out their other original paintings... Fab!

So That's it I think for this week. I hope I havent left anyone out... if I have I'll pop you into next weeks feature :)

SUNDAY... Coffee and Cake

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly musings, articles and mostly babble...

GRABBING A TREASURY I figured that today might be a good day to offer a new tutorial. I've had a busy week looking at the Newer artists of Etsy within the forums, mostly peering into queries in the help forum just to give myself an idea of what it is that most newbies on Etsy seem to struggle with to start off. There were various things ranging from questions about how to get themselves noticed more, to actual Etsy related questions regarding how to do various things. I didn't answer many queries but the one that I found myself over the past couple of days talking about the most was how on earth to beat everyone at grabbing a treasury. I'm amazed at the number of people that have been on Etsy for a while that seem to find it difficult, asking the same question again and again. "Does the treasury EVER go under 333?" Of course the answer is yes, but you need to be bloomin fast when it does. And the best way to MAKE it work for you is to be prepared. So I thought I would offer my own technique of grabbing a Treasury which pretty much works every time for me. The only time it doesn't is if I get distracted! So for those of you that could do with some tips that work for me, read on! It's quite simple really so I'll break it down into a few points :)

#1 : Visit the Etsy Treasuries and set your Treasury view (the blue links beneath the page numbers at the top of the page) from "Hot" to "Expiration", clicking expiration twice so you see the treasuries ending soonest on page 1. OR Visit "craftopolis.com" and check out the Treasury Clock so you can see if the treasury is about to open. Ideally I'd do both. Why? Well to maximise your chances of seeing that "create a Treasury" box which is located at the BOTTOM of the Treasuries list! Being able to see the expiring treasuries countdown will give you an EXACT idea of how long you have left to chance grabbing your own, but you always want to keep an eye on the bottom of the Treasuries list because that's where your create button will appear!

#2 : If you reckon you have the time to jump in on the treasury wagon and have maybe 5, 10+ minutes to spare, USE THE TIME to get your Treasury ready. The most important part to have ready is your TREASURY TITLE and you want to copy it by right clicking with your mouse, so you are ready to paste the title into the box when it pops up. This is important because unless you can type fast you may find the Treasuries close before you finish writing. Whereas copying and pasting saves you from facing that risk.

#3 : Keep an eye on the expiring Treasuries. You need to be at the ready when the Treasury is at about 335-337 because sometimes unexpectedly, even if you think you have minutes to spare, the darned thing opens and you can miss your opportunity. Why? Well some sellers that want to get in on another when they already have one, may close their treasury early to get in with a chance. Even if that's not the reason for everyone, people delete their Treasuries all the time, and it can happen dramatically in the last 30 mins or so, particularly less than 30mins. So just be ready to paste your title and don't browse other pages!

#4 : Just for the record it doesn't open at 333, and sometimes it seems to take longer to open than it states that the last treasury will expire. Don't be tempted to scroll away from the bottom of the screen. Just wait... it'll reach 332 when it opens... and obviously when it does, PASTE!!!! Click create, and BREATHE! :)

Now once you have got this far, you can start looking around Etsy to see what items you'd like to include in your treasury. Be creative! Your treasury will help your chosen sellers immensily, and if you are extremely creative with your chosen items you could even make the front page if you're lucky! The Treasury requires item numbers to grab the picture and item info that you want to display, so its a case of copying and pasting into the boxes when you're ready. If you're very organised, have your items pre-chosen and complete your treasury quickly by having your items ready in advance. The point to the treasuries in my POV is to help one another as a community. So whatever your reasons, just give it a go and have some fun whilst you're at it. Someone asked in the forums the other day if treasuries are done by sellers expecting something in return for featuring others. I'm sure that for most it's not that way at all. I love it when I am featured in a treasury, but I never expect my chosen sellers to go out of their way to put me into any of theirs. It's communal, fun, creative and a great way to explore new works of art around the world! It doesn't need to be a selfish thing at all so don't let it worry you when you create one! Make it, enjoy it and let your sellers know they're in there!

FRIDAY - Friday Finds... ManyMoonsJewelry

Friday Finds... ManyMoonsJewelry

This is my 16th interview of the amazing not-so-well-known artists of Etsy!

Morning! Friday Friday Friday! Ahhh, the sweet knowing that the weekend is here :) For myself it's no different to any other day... infact without my blog keeping my internal calendar in check I doubt I'd even know what day it is (you can tell I'm a mum right? lol!) BUT, for many I know it's a big old welcome relief and something to look forward to! That's why I think it's great, as much as it may not be everywhere, there is a collective happy sigh across the world! Wonderful!
Right! Today I would like to introduce you to a lovely seller that I came across in a forum post earlier in the week, that happened to be asking people to check out her stuff as she's new on Etsy. I hadn't stumbled across anyone in this way for a while so I was delighted to visit her store and find the most beauituflly crafted trees made using wrapped wire and gemstones. I sent her a message of course asking about the interview and here it is for you all to enjoy! Please do visit ManyMoonsJewelry's store to check out her lovely work, and help support the New Artists on Etsy by doing so!

(Just click the images to go direct to the listings)

-- Tell me a bit about you! (Name, Age, Location, and give us a random fact whilst you're at it.) My name is Cassandra Middlebrook and I'm a 31 year old mother of 3 boys and wife to my husband, Danny. I live in the mountains of North Georgia, right on the borders of both North Carolina and Tennessee and moved here 2 years ago from the mountains and beauty of Colorado.

-- What is your business about then? My business is about finally finding something that I love and doing it! I've always been a very artistic person but nothing has ever sparked my passion and creativity like hand making jewelry. Wrapping a wire or string a stone is almost zen to me.

-- How did Etsy come into your life? Etsy came about in my life while reading a blog with items listed there. I love handmade and unique things so I just had to check it out :)

-- Are you working a day job too? I am not currently able to work outside the home as I am disabled and three boys, a husband, keeping house and my wire and beads are more than enough for me most days.

-- How long has the artist in you been 'unleashed' for? I started making jewelry as soon as I was able to tie a knot. My mother has always been a crafter and taught classes on both beading necklaces and macrame. Back then the big thing were those bizarre macrame owls. I believe that she still has one actually. I get my creative abilities from her. We lived in the country and when we would take walks would collect unique seeds and nuts to use later for all kinds of things.

-- What has been the inspiration behind your business? Nature. Most of my work is created with natural colors, natural stones and I value their natural abilities and healing properties. My Tree of Life pendants are a representations of mother nature herself and my Native American pieces are a reflection of my own back ground and beliefs.

-- If you could describe your products in three words, what would you tell me? Natural, healing, unique

-- What would an average working day for you be like from dawn til dusk? My work day starts in the morning with my children at 6 am. dressing, breakfast and off to school. The rest of my day is taken up with making sure my 5 year old doesn't burn the house down and doing house work. I work on my jewelry in the evenings and during the night, when the house is quiet and I can concentrate.

-- What's your favorite material and techniques to work with? I love working with copper, sterling silver and natural gems. I enjoy coming up with new techniques and learning new ways to wrap. There are no particular techniques for my trees...each one is unique and individual.

-- What is your ideal vision for the future for you and your work? My ideal vision for my future and my jewelry is to become successful on Etsy and be able to help support my family.

-- Away from work, what do you like to do for fun or to wind down? In good weather, during the spring and summer, my favorite thing is to take trips with my husband on our motorcycle. We take day trips all our the country side and have found some beautiful places. At home I enjoy peace and quiet and music very much.

-- What are you likely to search for on Etsy? I'm most likely to search for supplies on Etsy although I've looked for hats for my youngest son and unique art work.

-- Any last words? I would just like to thank Nay for this wonderful opportunity! It means so much to me.
Many blessings to you all!
